Providing the Best in Equine Veterinary Care
At Fox Creek Veterinary Hospital, we pledge to care for your horses “in sickness and in health.” Our cozy equine barn includes a climate-controlled treatment room, sturdy stocks, and a padded anesthesia recovery stall; we also have a paddock area for turnout or lameness examination, and 6 stalls are available for overnight hospitalization of horses.
WHAT WE OFFER
During a wellness examination, we assess the following parameters:
general appearance and attitude, vital signs (temperature, pulse, and respiration), thoracic auscultation (listening to the heart and lungs with a stethoscope), weight estimate (using weight tape for consistency), body condition score, hair coat and skin condition, brief oral examination (appearance of teeth and gums), brief assessment of hooves and legs, and brief assessment of horse in motion if there are gait or neurologic concerns.
Twice a year, you dutifully schedule your horse’s vaccination appointment. The veterinarian comes out, performs a wellness examination, delivers a shot or two, and (barring additional health concerns) deems your horse good to go.
Proper oral health is of vital importance to the horse. Without good dental care, myriad problems can result: behavior issues stemming from pain when the bit is used, weight loss, choke, or impaction colic from inability to properly chew food, deep ulcers and infections in the mouth where sharp dental points cut into the cheeks or tongue, and more.
